Bionic Gloves Technology was invented by Hillerich & Bradsby Co. the American family-owned, 119-year-old manufacturer of the legendary Louisville Slugger® baseball bats and TPS Hockey equipment. Orthopaedic hand surgeon, Dr Jim Kleinert gave up his successful practice to pursue his dream of better gloves. H&B first retained him as a consultant to help redesign its TPS Hockey division's gloves. The results were dramatically improved glove comfort and function, and sales.
Kleinert, soon being labelled "Dr. Strangeglove" around the H&B offices, was then asked to help rework the Louisville Slugger line of baseball and softball batting gloves, catchers' mitts and first basemen's gloves. Rave reviews came, along with a spike in sales. That's when the decision was made to join forces full-time and establish Bionic Glove Technology to focus on better designed, more functional gloves.
