The original idea to create the two handled mug came as a result of one Multiple Sclerosis sufferer seeing the regular large tapered mugs that Forest of Dean-based potters, Reckless Designs had produced for the Queen's Golden Jubilee. She noticed that the generous proportions of the handle enabled her to get a very firm grip of the mug given the somewhat limited movement she had in her hands. She contacted Reckless and asked if they could produce a two handled version. They willingly obliged. The prototype was still a little tight on the handles so Reckless made the second one with extra large handles which suited her perfectly. Both the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society have shown a great deal of enthusiasm in the final design
